Hello everyone,

I'm currently a student and I have a technology watch project to present. My topic is: "Study of the migration from a multisite Active Directory 2012 to Samba 4".
I have several questions on the subject as I'm a bit lost.
- During the migration from Active Directory to Samba, how is DNS managed? The same question applies to the file server.
- How does Samba handle multisite? To keep it simple, I'll use the example of two sites with different subnets and a domain controller for each site.
- How does Samba handle Exchange migration?
- Do you have a tutorial for migrating from Active Directory 2012 to Samba?
- Can you tell me what needs to be considered to ensure a smooth migration to Samba?

Thank you for your understanding.

identical to an MS-AD.

Samba-AD manages the Active Directory portion, not the Exchange portion. Exchange requires schema extensions (likely supported) and certain LDAP extensions (not necessarily supported, to be verified depending on the Exchange version).

See the documentation; you must first downgrade to FL2008R2
- Can you tell me what needs to be taken into account to ensure a smooth migration to Samba?
Active Directory isn't simple, and Samba-AD is an implementation of Active Directory. So it's not simple, but it's not complicated either if you have a good grasp of AD technologies.
Sincerely,
Denis
