[SOLVED] Beginner questions about packages

Hello,

I've recently started using WAPT, which I find very good, and I've already managed to deploy a VNC package to clients, for example.

But I have a question about how packages work:
if a new version of the VNC package is released on the WAPT repository tomorrow, what do I need to do to deploy it to my machines? Do I need to import it into my private repository and deploy it to the machines where it's already installed, as I did the first time? Or is there a way to automate these tasks?

Bonus question, still a beginner's question, sorry: I have an old version of Java 8 installed on one PC (installed before WAPT). If I deploy a Java package on this machine, will the package remove the old version of Java? This would help avoid security vulnerabilities.

Thank you very much for your help!

I think most of your questions are addressed in the "Fundamentals" section of the WAPT documentation: https://www.wapt.fr/fr/doc/Theorique/in ... ndamentaux

The WAPT agent that has a package already installed will download and install newer versions of the package if it has the same name and a higher version number.

Regarding your question about Java, the behavior of each package depends on the installer (setup.exe) and the WAPT package's setup.py file. To know if your Java 8 will be removed, you need to look inside the package. Some people need to keep two versions of Java in parallel because of certain business applications. Others only want the latest version. WAPT allows you to script this and adapt the package's behavior to the organization's internal policy.

Sincerely,

Denis
