[SOLVED] WAPT Console Backup

Hello everyone,

While waiting for my migration to the Kace deployment system scheduled for the end of 2019, I'm continuing to use WAPT. :-)

I'm currently changing my monitoring PC, and the WAPT console is installed on it. What should I back up so as not to lose the console's entire configuration (present machine, server configuration, etc.)? I can't remember if the machine database is located on the server. :-)

Edit: I forgot to mention, I'm not changing the server. :-)

Thanks :-)

, Joris

May I ask why you'd switch to Dell Kace? Kace does things that WAPT doesn't handle (for example, OS installation), but for software deployment, there's no comparison, WAPT is far superior!

May I also ask how much you paid for your licenses?

The database and packages are all hosted on the server. On the workstation, the most important thing is the signing key, which is created in the following directory (by default):

Code: Select all

c:\private
If you want to simplify the console reconfiguration, you can also retrieve the following settings file:

Code: Select all

%localappdata%\waptconsole\waptconsole.ini

So, to put it simply, following the merger of the Burgundy and Franche-Comté regions, it was decided that the two former territories would have identical hardware and software infrastructure in all the region's high schools (in Burgundy, they use Fog for deployment and WAPT for software, while in Franche-Comté, they use Altiris, which handles both). They wanted to have the same system as Altiris (I presume), without actually using it. There were trials with Microsoft tools, but apparently not successful, and when they turned to Kace, it was clearly love at first sight. :)

Regarding the license prices, I have no idea; I imagine they offered a discount since it will equip all the high schools. However, it seems they're not buying the physical servers but the appliances directly.

So, I was able to reinstall my WAPT console without any problems. :-)
