a package was created and we continued to develop it.
However, we are not satisfied with the naming convention, including the version number.
Is there a way to change the name without having to create a new package?
This would ensure the change is transparent to users.

Since everything revolves around the name, no, it's not possible to rename a package.

However, you can create a transition package with a dependency—a group that bears the name of the old package but has the new package as a dependency. `tis-libreoffice` is an example.
