[RESOLVED] Some menus were greyed out

Hello,
First, here is the information about my server:
- Installed WAPT version: 2.2.3.12485
- Server OS: Windows Server 2019 Datacenter
- Administration/package creation machine OS: Windows Server 2019 Datacenter

I only use WAPT for self-service, so I don't have a WAPT license.
Until now, I could download packages from the official WAPT external repository or import packages directly from the same repository.
Recently, the "import a package" button is grayed out. Why?

Thank you.

Hello,

I just tested it and I can't reproduce your problem.

Do you have a key and a prefix in your settings?

Hello,
thank you for your reply.
Yes, I have a private key and a prefix.
I've attached two screenshots of my problem.
I'll continue my research and keep you updated.

Thank you

Is the account you're logging in with "admin"? (You must use "admin" in Discovery mode.)

You can also remove any expired trial licenses in the licensing section. Then restart the console.

Hello,

do you have more than 300 machines in the console? The free Discovery version is limited to 300 machines.

Regards,

Denis

Hello,
I just checked and indeed I've exceeded 300 workstations.
But I thought that on previous versions (1.8 or 2.0) this wasn't a problem. So I'll continue with the available features.

I'd also like to raise a second issue: While investigating why it was limited, I updated WaptServer again.
My server is now at version 2.2.3.12485, but the agent is still at 2.2.3.12471.
How do I update it?

Hello,

there was no Discovery version in 2.0, only an Enterprise version, and there was no way to technically override the limit. If you had a WAPT 2.0 version without a license, it didn't comply with the SLA. Version 2.0 was never available for public download; could you tell me how you managed to obtain it?

With the release of the first Discovery version, WAPT 2.2.0, there is a mechanism to force the limit to 300 users.

Sincerely,

Denis Cardon

Hello,
I downloaded version 2.0 from the official website (https://www.wapt.fr/fr/doc-2.0/install-windows.html).
It's been a while, so I don't remember exactly if I had that version, but I always download updates from that site.

Don't you want to remove the 300-user limit? :D

Also, how do I upgrade the agent?

Thank you.

Hello Scud,

It's been a while since then, so I don't remember exactly if I had that version, but I always download versions from that site.
As the page you linked to indicates, the Discovery version wasn't supported [1], and downloading it requires a login/password [2]... The question is, who configured the repository with the login/password, and where were these credentials retrieved?... It's possible this was due to a trial license request, but trial licenses have an expiration date...

In any case, using WAPT version 2.0 Enterprise without an Enterprise license (trial or otherwise) is not permitted by WAPT's EULA. If you still have a version 2.0 installed without a license, you must downgrade to 1.8.2 (a version no longer supported by Tranquil IT, and which, to our knowledge, has not been adopted by anyone else...) or upgrade to version 2.2 Discovery; otherwise, you are in violation of the terms and your employer may be prosecuted.
You don't want to remove this mechanism for 300 stations? :D
I think you're used to receiving a salary for the work you do for your employer. WAPT developers are used to this too, and these salaries are paid by WAPT Enterprise license sales. This limit of 300 positions allows those managing small parks with limited budgets to benefit from WAPT Discovery, while also encouraging those with larger parks to purchase WAPT Enterprise, and thus contribute to the funding of WAPT development.

WAPT was dual-licensed (proprietary/GPLV3) for a while. However, there was no contribution from the user community, and WAPT was used extensively without any participation, with the largest WAPT 1.8.2 community having 60,000 workstations...

We concluded that the 1.8.2 business model was not sustainable in the long term, and therefore we switched to the WAPT Enterprise/WAPT Discovery model. This allowed us to triple the development team and deliver significantly more value to WAPT users.

So the limit is in place for good reasons, and it's there to stay.
However, how do you upgrade the agent?
To resume normal console operation, you need to delete stations to get below the 300 limit, or call Faustine in the sales department to buy an Enterprise license.

Sincerely,

Denis Cardon

I was indeed using version 1.8 and subsequently upgraded to a higher version, still believing I was on the Discovery license. I don't see any information on Wapt indicating whether I'm on the Enterprise or Discovery license. In any case, I'm trying to convince my company to purchase a license so the problem won't arise again.
So the limit is in place for good reasons, and it's there to stay.
I hope you didn't take it the wrong way; it was meant to be humorous. I know very well that the restrictions are in place for a good reason.

THANKS
