Firefox package, updates, and profile loss

Hello,
I have the following problem with Firefox.

In the WAPT console (1.8 Community, currently upgrading to Enterprise 2.4), I install the Firefox package, for example, version 115, which deploys correctly across my network of machines.

A few days/weeks later, Firefox automatically updates to version 116, 117, etc.,

and then WAPT restarts and reverts Firefox to version 115. Since Firefox profiles are not always compatible between versions, users lose their profiles, tabs, passwords, etc.

Is there a simple solution to this problem?

Best regards,

PS: The forum does not allow searching for the word "Firefox," as it is considered too common (!!!)

Hi Florian,

are you referring to the Firefox ESR version or the standard Firefox? Are you using the package from the WAPT store or a custom package? The store package disables updates, so that shouldn't change anything. However, could you possibly have two versions of Firefox installed on your network (one ESR and one non-ESR, or one 32-bit and one 64-bit)? Do you have a GPO or SCCM that could be making changes in the background?

Versions 116 and 117 are not ESR, so they shouldn't appear even with a misconfigured ESR.

I should add that the Firefox website is rather unusual regarding version numbering. There are two versions of Firefox ESR that are maintained: version 102 and version 115 (nicknamed Firefox Next). Version 102 is the default download on the website, but if you download it from another source, you'll get version 115, which is advertised as the new version...

Regards,

Denis
