Waptserver on Debian without DNS

Hello,

I'm currently running Wapt server on a Windows 7 PC at school.
But since the user guide says it's better to install it on Debian, I'm testing it at home.

So I installed Debian without a graphical interface on an old desktop computer.

However, there's a problem: I don't have DNS at home.

Is this a problem?

Thanks,
Franck

Hello.

It's not a problem, it's recommended but not mandatory. ;)

Hello,

thank you for the clarification (for my own understanding, I'd like to know why this is preferable).

So, I have a Debian system without a graphical interface ready to go (the lack of a mouse is quite disconcerting...). But while following the instructions for installing the server component on such a machine, I've run into a small problem: what should I do when asked if I need to configure "Apache"? I tried to "please" it by saying "OK," but then it's all a bit unclear because I don't know what to enter, not having a "domain."

It's not urgent because the WAPT solution works at the high school for about fifty workstations, but I'd like to do things more properly someday.

Thank you,
Franck

Hello,

any suggestions?

With a Windows server, I can get everything working using the IP address (it's offered during installation), but I'm stuck with Debian (and since I'm new to Linux, it doesn't make things any easier).

Thanks,
Franck.

A future DNS name :) ?

The requested domain name is the one that will be used to create a self-signed certificate.

Therefore, you can enter a potential future DNS name like wapt.mydomain.lan.
