Font problems with tis-adobereader packages

Hello everyone,

I've been having font problems with the tis-adobereader package for several versions now. For some unknown reason, certain PDF files no longer display correctly, with hieroglyphics appearing on certain words, letters, or entire sentences (I can't provide examples because they contain confidential data), and these files come from different sources.

If I remove the version installed via wapt and install the version downloaded from the Adobe website, the problem disappears.

I experience this issue on machines running Windows 10 and Windows 7.

Hi Philippe,

on a machine with the problem, could you try installing the binary from the installer (just unzip the package and run the installation of the MSI/EXE file inside)? It's the MUI version of Adobe Reader that's packaged; it might be the one with the bug.

The main difference between a manual installation and an installation via the package is that the automatic update service is disabled. But I don't know if this service can be used to download fonts...

Could you check if the problematic fonts are embedded in the document or not? If the font isn't embedded, is it available on the system before the document is opened, and after (in the case of a manual Adobe Reader installation)?

Could you try installing the Adobe font pack [1] on a machine with the problem to see if the missing font is included?

Regards,

Denis
