[SOLVED] Moving data to another disk

Good morning,

During the installation of our WAPT server, everything was put on the C drive.
For practical reasons, we would like to move the data to a D drive.

• If I understand correctly, the modifications need to be made in the "waptserver.ini" file?
• But what parameters exactly?
• In what order should things be done so as not to disrupt the operation too much?
• Copy the data and then make the modification, I suppose?
• Which directories should I copy to make sure I don't forget anything?

Hi Yohan,

I'd say the best thing to do is not to move it and to increase the disk size.

It's not a very common procedure, but the code supports it. However, there's no command to do it automatically. There are several places where there's a hardcoded reference to the c:\wapt directory, so you need to be sure to modify them all depending on what you want to move:

basically, if it's really necessary, do you want to move the entire c:\wapt directory or only the c:\wapt\repository directory where Wapt and Windows Updates are stored?

The paths are also hardcoded in the nginx.conf file, so you'll need to run winsetup.py (postconf.py on Windows) afterward. And if you have to move the entire c:\wapt directory, you also need to update the service definitions, etc.

Hi Denis,

I only intended to move the repository. Is this something that needs to be reconfigured in waptserver.ini only, or somewhere else?
Another solution, if simpler, would be to reinstall the server on Linux, but what are the implications of a Windows to Linux migration?

Yes, the best option is to use a Linux server. The Nginx server integrated into WAPT performs much worse under Windows than under Linux (this isn't a problem with the WAPT code itself, but with a component, the web server, on which it relies).

Okay, I'm going to consider migrating to Linux. I imagine I'll have to regenerate all the certificates?

you can keep your certificate and signing key when changing servers. Just be careful not to generate a new packet signing certificate.
