Hello,

I would like to know if it's possible to update VMware Tools from the console while the program is running.

Installation details:
WAPT version: Enterprise version 2.6.1.17765
; Server OS: Windows 2022;
Console machine OS: Windows 11.

Regards,

Hello Mathieu,

in the vmware-tool package from the wapt store, there is the impacted_process field which is filled in [1]

Code: Select all

impacted_process : vmtoolsd
For the package to install, vmtoolsd must not be running, or the installation must be forced.

But since this vmtoolsd service process runs all the time on the VM, we should consider the relevance of having the vmtoolsd parameter in impacted_process... For user software (word processor, browser, etc.), impacted_process helps avoid disturbing the user, but for a service, it may be less relevant.

Do you know how vmware-tools behaves when it is updated during the day?

Sincerely,

Denis

Hello Denis,

Thank you for your feedback.
During an update, the VMware Tools services are restarted.

Have a good day,

Mathieu
