Hello,

When updating the VLC package from the Tranquil IT store via the internet repository, our antivirus software on client workstations raised an alert about a virus that may be present in the package:

Have you encountered this issue?

Antivirus programs are not always reliable; you must exercise caution:

1) regarding false positives when the antivirus identifies a legitimate file as a virus, and

2) regarding false negatives when the antivirus detects nothing because the file has not yet been reported to the antivirus software.

If in doubt, perform an MD5 checksum of the binary file(s) contained in the WAPT package and compare this checksum with the binaries you download from the publisher's official website.

If the two match, then you are most likely dealing with a false positive, except in the rare case of the download source being compromised. In that case, the decision rests with your own judgment.
