How are updates performed on the client machine?

Hi,

I added some software packages to install on a machine, and when I try to save and install them, it says "Installation complete." On the right side of the console, I see the Adobe Reader package with a green checkmark in the status bar and the Java package with a blue plus sign in the status bar. (What does the blue plus sign mean? Is there a standard code for these packages?)

My question is, how can the client machine tell if the installation has been completed? Do we need to reboot the machine for the installation to start? In short, how does this process work on a client machine?

Hello.

The orange triangle means that the package (which was already installed) has a new version available on the server and needs to be updated. Right-click on the machine, launch the package installation to switch the package to a green checkmark.

The green checkmark means that the package is correctly installed on the machine and is up-to-date with the one in the repository; everything is fine.

The plus sign means that the package needs to be added to the workstation. Typically, this happens when adding software. A

red checkmark with an exclamation point means that the package installation encountered a problem, and therefore the package is in error.

The check for available packages and their versions is performed by default every 2 hours.
To modify the setting, you can change the value of `waptupdate_task_period` to 120.

Alternatively, in the console, you can right-click on the computer and select "Run package update." This will force the client to check if it needs to install new packages (blue triangle) or update existing ones (orange triangle).

Then, to start an installation, you can right-click on the computer and select "Run package installation."

Alternatively, if you left "Offer package updates on computer shutdown" checked during installation, Wapt will install the packages upon shutdown.

The final installation method is using WaptTray:

WaptTray is active if you enabled "Launch notification icon on login" during client installation. (Also available in c:\wapt\wapttray.exe)

WaptTray is a small icon that launches in the taskbar. This icon flashes with an orange triangle when updates are available. This allows the user to choose when to install their updates. When it's ready, they can right-click on the icon and click on "Launch Package Installation". This will work even if the user is not an administrator. This is very convenient when users are always short on time.

The other options for installing packages are using the command line:
`wapt-get update`
`wapt-get upgrade`

There are also updates via the web interface for the user:

http://127.0.0.1:8088/list.

Then click on "Upgrade the system".
