could you please provide me with information regarding the setup/configuration of self-service for Linux PCs? How do I access it from the PC?

It is recommended to configure authentication using waptserver-ldap [1] (basically, delegate self-service authentication to the Wapt server), otherwise it won't work in many cases. Otherwise, there's not much difference compared to Windows.
